"HO NYK September 1, 1971 - Experiment the Experimental - What I Do Is Music - Rap in Progress No. 1 with Carlos Vergara" by Helio Oiticica

Helio Oiticica, a major Brazilian figure, writes of the limits of the art world and of what he understands by the concept of the experimental and of MUSIC as a synthesis of his artistic search. Finally in his coversation with Carlos Vergara he explores the idea of collective participation through his experience with the blocos de samba.

In English and in Spanish. The book can be turned upside down and read in the reverse direction for the two different versions.

Helio Oiticica is a major figure of the Brazilian avant-garde of the sixties and seventies. Oiticica's early works, in the mid 1950s, were greatly influenced by European modern art movements. He was a member of Grupo Frente, founded Ivan Serpa, under whom he had studied painting. His early paintings used a palette of strong, bright primary and secondary colors and geometric shapes influenced by artists such as Piet Mondrian, Paul Klee and Kazimir Malevich. Oiticica's painting quickly gave way to a much warmer and more subtle palette of oranges, yellows, reds and browns which he maintained, with some exceptions, for the rest of his life.

White Wine Press is a series of texts, one hundred being the goal, as an open project that seeks to wander a world. We are looking simply for those voices that have an urgency of saying. The artists are free to write about any subject, preferably about something outside the overwhelmingly present frames of their own work, or at least to come at the same in tangential fashion. In other words: state an interest.

The texts will be published in the original language and in an English translation. If the texts are written in English, they will be accompanied by a Spanish translation and thus cover two large linguistic areas. Our basic animal condition, as Charles Olson put it, is move/meant. We are now in movement and thank the artists for providing state/meant. There is no story that is not true.
