Desmothernismo surveys the work that Ruben Ortiz Torres has produced over the last seven years as hes commuted between the U.S. and Mexico, using diverse media to explore the aesthetic, linguistic, and social collisions of the two countries art and culture. Covering the full range of his eclectic work, the catalogue surveys his paintings/pictograms that challenge popular notions of nationalism and internationalism; photographs that mix allegory with documentation; customized baseball caps that challenge the relationships between aesthetics, mass media, politics, sports, and community; and his acclaimed recent installation Alien Toyz.
