Georganne Deen: 1992-2002 [The MAC Center Catalogue]

Art critic Doug Harvey writes in his catalogue essay, For all the vulnerability in her imagery, it is Dees obstinacy that is the overiding psychological motif of the work sheer willpower to not only transform trauma into drama, but to do so in her own voice, regardless of cultural pigeonholes and fashions. The catalogue was published for her 2002 exhibit at the MAC Center. The Los Angeles is an influential figure in the formation of the low brow art movemnet, but is clearly her own animal. Her paintings are both mesmorizing and tough to penetrate.
